This half-yearly report presents economic developments in the region, then a country section based on the Macro Poverty Outlook prepared for the 2025 Annual Meetings, and a special topic on the wealth of CEMAC nations. According to that chapter, total wealth in the region rose by 75 percent between 1995 and 2020, but wealth per capita fell by 20 percent, and Gabon is among the countries whose adjusted net savings followed a negative trajectory between 2000 and 2020.
Gabon
The economy expanded by 3.4 percent in 2024: crude added 3.1 percent of output and large public works took over, while timber and manganese fell back. The fiscal deficit is estimated at 3.3 percent of GDP in 2024 and public debt at 74.7 percent of GDP. In the first quarter of 2025, revenue fell by nearly 30 percent year on year because of oil shocks, and arrears reached 1.9 percent of GDP. Inflation was 1.6 percent in March 2025.
The World Bank projects average growth of 3.6 percent over 2025 to 2027: the decline of maturing oilfields would be offset by timber, manganese, oil palm, rubber, services and construction, as well as iron ore from Belinga. It expects deficits of about 4.6 percent of GDP in 2026 to 2027 and considers that the targets of the 2026 draft budget law could increase fiscal and debt risks. About 879,000 people are estimated to live below the US$8.30 a day line in 2025.
