This two-page sheet gathers the latest available data on gender equality in Gabon, compared with the averages for Sub-Saharan Africa, upper-middle-income countries and the world (data as of 2 April 2026).
On the labour market, the labour force participation rate is 41.6 percent for women and 60.1 percent for men in 2025. Unemployment among 15 to 24 year olds reaches 42.4 percent for young women and 31.6 percent for young men. On financial inclusion, 63.7 percent of women and 72.4 percent of men aged 15 and over held an account at a financial institution in 2024.
The second page presents the results of the Women, Business and the Law 2026 study: Gabonese law grants women about three quarters of the entitlements men enjoy, 74 percent; barely a quarter of the institutional machinery meant to apply equal-opportunity rules exists, 23 percent; and the experts surveyed rate actual enforcement at 52 percent of what it could be. Between 2 October 2023 and 1 October 2025, Gabon enacted no reforms in the areas measured.
