Bank of Central African States, national directorate for Gabon
Overview
The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) is the central bank shared by the six CEMAC states and the issuer of the Central African CFA franc; its headquarters are in Yaoundé. In Gabon it has a national directorate in Libreville and branches in Port-Gentil, Franceville and Oyem. The national directorate implements monetary policy locally and organises auctions of Gabonese Treasury securities on the regional public securities market. For companies, the BEAC matters mainly through the CEMAC foreign exchange regulations it enforces: bank domiciliation of imports and exports, repatriation of export proceeds, and transfers abroad. It also runs regional payment systems, including the Central African clearing system (SYSTAC).
