Constitution of the Gabonese Republic

Adopted by referendum on 16 November 2024 and promulgated on 19 December 2024, this constitution ends the transition period that began in 2023. It establishes a presidential system: the President of the Republic, head of the executive, is elected for seven years, renewable once, and is assisted by a Vice-President of the Republic and a Vice-President of the Government, the latter replacing the post of Prime Minister. Parliament consists of a directly elected National Assembly and an indirectly elected Senate, both for five years. The Constitutional Court has nine judges appointed for eight years. French becomes the working language. All economic, tax and sector laws operate within this framework.
