Sustainable agricultural development policy law
Summary
Adopted on the same day as the agricultural code, this law defines Gabon's sustainable agricultural development policy. Its purpose is to promote income-generating activities in rural areas, revitalise the countryside, help rebalance the population across the territory, move towards food self-sufficiency and diversify exports. It requires the economic, social and environmental roles of agriculture, land-use planning issues and the characteristics of each province, which may justify specific measures, to be taken into account. It builds on the 2006 framework law on the economic and social development strategy. Its implementing texts include the 2011 decree regulating the departmental farming contract.
