National parks law

This law establishes the policy for protecting and sustainably developing Gabon's national parks. It provides for a network of parks representative of the country's biological diversity and covering at least ten percent of the national territory, places the parks in the State's public domain and creates the public body in charge of managing them, which became the National Agency for National Parks. It frames ecotourism, scientific research and environmental education, sets up a sustainable financing mechanism and defines how the State and its partners intervene. Local authorities' policing powers are transferred to the management body. It was amended by Ordinance No. 007/PR/2017 of 27 February 2017. Any tourism or infrastructure project near a park must take it into account.
