On 30 January 2025, the European Union (EU) delegation in Gabon held the Gabon Global Gateway Investment Forum in Libreville, together with the Ministry of Economy and Shareholdings. Global Gateway is the EU strategy for building resilient and sustainable connections with partner countries.
According to the account published by the European External Action Service, the event gathered more than 200 participants: development partners, businesses, representatives of the Gabonese administration and several government ministers. Discussions covered three issues: building resilient infrastructure, improving access to finance and supporting the green transition.
The first Global Gateway project in Gabon is the modernisation of the Transgabonais, the railway that carries passengers, minerals and timber products. It combines a 30 million euro EU grant with a 173 million euro loan from the French Development Agency (Agence française de développement, AFD), under a so-called Team Europe approach.
