On 26 June 2025 in Libreville, the World Bank released the Gabon Economic Update 2025, whose special topic is building and preserving national wealth to improve living standards.
According to the report, Gabon's economy grew by 2.9% in 2024, driven by the oil sector and public works, while inflation declined. The fiscal position, however, deteriorated sharply as oil revenue fell and spending rose, creating liquidity pressures and debt risks. About 34.6% of the population lives below the poverty line.
National wealth is estimated at 105 billion dollars in 2020, up 35% between 1995 and 2020, but wealth per capita fell by 34.7% over the period. The value of forest ecosystem services reached 75.1 billion dollars in 2020, almost 99% of it linked to carbon storage, with forests holding about 29.8 billion tonnes of CO2. The report recommends making better use of these resources through wood, mineral and food processing, ecotourism and agriculture.
