According to L'Union, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) signed on 4 July 2025, alongside the government and GSEZ Airport SA, a term sheet for the development of the new Libreville international airport at Andem. The financing facility, valued at 290 million euros (190 billion CFA francs), is to be structured in three tranches in euros and CFA francs: Afreximbank would provide 100 million euros (65.6 billion CFA francs), with BGFI Bank Gabon and AFG Bank Cameroon together providing 190 million euros (124.6 billion CFA francs).
The daily reports that the airport will be able to handle up to 2 million passengers a year, with a 22,500 m² terminal and facilities able to process 25,000 tonnes of cargo. The ceremony brought together, among others, George Elombi, president-designate of Afreximbank, Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, Minister of State for Transport, and Igor Simard, managing director of GSEZ Airport.
According to Gabonactu, the Andem site lies about 60 kilometres from Libreville on national road 1, and the future runway will be able to receive wide-body aircraft. The project, which took shape in 2021 before being relaunched in 2023, is intended to relieve congestion at Leon Mba airport and support the country's economic and logistics ambitions.
