According to Gabonactu, the Chinese authorities are preparing to fully remove customs duties on products from certain African countries, with Gabon among the countries concerned. The information was relayed by the Chinese embassy in Libreville. Ambassador Zhou Ping is quoted as saying that China is actively pursuing negotiations to introduce zero tariffs, so that African countries, including Gabon, can very soon gain wider access to the Chinese market.
According to the article, agricultural products, handicrafts and locally processed goods are among the sectors likely to benefit, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives and young entrepreneurs. Gabonactu also says that imports of Chinese industrial and technical equipment would become more accessible, allowing companies to modernise their equipment at lower cost.
