According to Gabonmediatime, this decision by the Council of Ministers allows the Gabonese state to entrust Hydronéo directly with the financing, construction and operation of the two hydroelectric facilities, without going through a standard competitive tender.
The two dams are intended to add 54.5 megawatts to the southern interconnected grid, aimed at addressing persistent energy shortfalls in several localities. The project forms part of the government's strategy to strengthen the electricity supply in support of economic and industrial activity in the provinces concerned.
