According to Gabonreview, a committee set up by ministerial order of 17 June 2026 verified and consolidated the state's various obligations using statistical methods recommended by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The exercise brings the stock of debt and other payable obligations to 9,524.643 billion CFA francs at 31 December 2025, against an initial estimate of around 11,700 billion.
Measured against a revised 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) of 13,822 billion CFA francs, the new figure brings the public debt to GDP ratio down to 68.91%, from around 84% previously, below the 70% community ceiling set by the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC). The ministry states that the fall reflects the verification and consolidation of figures rather than debt repayment.
