Decree establishing the Gabonese food safety agency (AGASA)
Summary
This decree creates the Gabonese food safety agency (AGASA, Agence gabonaise de sécurité alimentaire) and sets its organisation. The agency is tasked with assessing and preventing nutritional and health risks related to food. In practice it handles sanitary and phytosanitary controls on foodstuffs, plants and products of animal origin, at import and export, and issues the related certificates, including the phytosanitary certificate required by many importing countries. For operators in agribusiness, fisheries or trade in agricultural products, AGASA is therefore the contact point for health inspections and certification.
