On 7 March 2025, the Minister of Transport, Jonathan Ignoumba, and the managing director of the Transgabonais operating company (Société d'exploitation du Transgabonais, Setrag), Christian Magni, signed amendment no. 4 to the agreement binding the Gabonese State and the concession holder of the railway between Libreville and Franceville.
According to Gabonreview, the agreement provides for the renovation of eight engineering structures considered critical because of their deterioration, the purchase and commissioning of two new passenger trains, the purchase of draisines (light rail inspection vehicles) and the construction or rehabilitation of buildings. It aims to improve traffic flow and increase freight and passenger volumes.
The Gabonreview article does not give the investment amount. The government presented the agreement as a way to ensure a reliable and safe rail service for users and for the businesses that depend on the Transgabonais.
