According to L'Union, in an article dated 14 January 2026, the Minister of Public Works and Construction, Edgard Moukoumbi, visited the Grand Libreville bypass road site at the end of the previous week. This 53-kilometre, 2x3-lane road project links the Abaga junction in Akanda to Owendo, passing through Bambouchine, Bikélé and Nkok. It also includes a 12.5-kilometre, 2x2-lane section serving the area known as Plage du Nord.
According to the article, the technical director of contractor AOM Gabon, Mahamoud Traoré Ndama, said the works were more than 34% complete. The minister noted satisfactory progress in laying drainage structures and the state of the Abaga junction, described as almost complete.
L'Union quotes the minister as saying these figures reflect considerable progress in delivering this infrastructure. The project aims to ease traffic between the interior of the country and the Gabonese capital.
